Firefighters find man's body after flames engulf house

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A deadly house fire has claimed a man's life near the Georgia coast.

Savannah fire officials say firefighters forced their way into a burning home on Savannah's east side Friday. They said flames had already consumed a rear portion of the one-story home, including the kitchen and back porch.

After the flames were knocked down, they discovered the body of a man on the back porch. They say it wasn't immediately known whether the man was inside the home or outside on the porch when the blaze began.

Investigators say the man suffered some burn injuries, but the cause of death remained undetermined. An autopsy was planned.

Investigators say that although they don't believe the fire is suspicious in nature, they're continuing their investigation.
