Family, police ask for help in DeKalb cold case

This Thanksgiving will mark five years since someone murdered a DeKalb County woman inside her own home and the case remains unsolved.

A concerned friend discovered Amy Bohard, 46, had been shot to death inside her unit at the Georgetown of Atlanta Condominiums on November 30, 2013.

"It's sad and heartbreaking and it's a hard thing to deal with every day knowing that she got murdered and that person is still out there," said Robin Cave, Bohard's sister.

Even though so much time has passed, Cave and her husband hold out hope that there will be a break in the case.

"I've spoken to the family on a regular basis.  Literally, beginning of every month I get a phone call asking for an update and I have to give the same response, 'I don't have anything new,'" explained DeKalb Police Sgt. B. L. Danner.  "I can't give them that ray of hope [that] I have something new.  I'm hoping that the public can help us with that."

According to investigators, the last thing they know for certain was that Bohard spent time at a friend's house on November 27.  They ask that anyone who saw or heard anything between then and Saturday morning when her body was found, to get in touch.

"We'd like to talk to anyone that went over to her apartment in those three days that tried to make contact with her and find out what they saw or what they may have heard," Sgt. Danner said.

Cave said her sister was a joyful person, who even went by the nickname "Joy."

"That's how her personality was. She was full of life and had a good circle of friends, loved animals, loved living in her community, was a big part of her community," Cave recalled.  "There's a person out there who committed murder that's out free and I know that all of her friends and family we're really hoping and praying every day that something changes with this case to break it."

Anyone with information that could help should contact the DeKalb Police Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
