UPDATE: Fire officials said the cause of the blaze at the Tuscana apartments was an electrical outlet on the ground floor.

Twenty families are displaced from an apartment complex in Norcross, after a fire tore through an apartment building and damaged six to eight units.

Gwinnett Fire officials said the fire at the Tuscana Apartments started shortly after 2:00 p.m.

It took firefighters about 45-minutes to bring the fire completely under control.  Flames burned away part of the roof and caused heavy damage to units of the building.  Firefighters were challenged by wind-driven flames as they worked to bring the blaze under control and protect nearby exposures.

The entire building (all 20-units) will be displaced for the night due to the damage and the fact that power is cut to the building.  The American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced families.  The residents were gathered at the clubhouse/leasing office and were working with management from the complex and  Red Cross representatives.

The exact cause and origin of the fire is currently undetermined and is under active investigation by the fire department.  The Fire Investigator is sifting through the debris and talking with occupants of the building to determine what nay have happened.
