Douglas Co. restaurant total loss after fire

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. - Douglas County Fire investigators are working to identify what caused a fire at a popular restaurant Sunday night.

Kenny's Home Cooking on Fairburn Road was destroyed after a fire tore through the restaurant. The restaurant was closed at the time and no one was injured.

"If we worked as late as we normally do we would have been in there," Michelle Abernathy said.

A FOX 5 viewer sent FOX 5 cell phone video of the fire. The footage shows the restaurant engulfed in flames. 

"I found out about the fire through that video," Abernathy said.

Detectives stayed on the scene overnight. Employees at Kenny's told FOX 5 they are devastated by the news.

"It just doesn't seem real," Stephanie Teal said. "It still hasn't processed."

Thirteen units responded to the scene to put out the fire. Investigators told FOX 5 they were waiting for daylight so they could safely go inside and process the incident.
