Atlanta Police seek 'person of interest' in murder
ATLANTA - Investigators released video of a man they call a “person of interest” in a murder Wednesday night in northwest Atlanta.
Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Lt. Charles Hampton held a news conference Thursday to share surveillance video of the man.
“We’re just trying to see what his involvement is and right now, we’re not really sure,” explained Lt. Hampton. “So, we need help getting him identified to further our investigation.”
The man is shown approaching the door of a home on Vanderbilt Court shortly before police were called to the address by a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they discovered Carl Cosby, 28, shot to death in the basement.
Family members said Cosby, known as CJ, was a father of two young daughters. Police said the victim lived at the home with his grandmother and worked at a local warehouse. They so believe he was the intended target, but are not sure why.
“Right now there's no information that lends in the investigation whey he was targeted and why he was killed. So, we still have some questions that we need to help answer,” said Hampton.
The family is raising money to bury CJ. They have started a fundraising site and are grateful to all who have donated and supported them during this difficult time.
A gofundme account has been set up to help with funeral costs: https://www.gofundme.com/cj-carl-cosby-ii-burial-fund?ssid=795627161&pos=1
Investigators ask anyone who recognizes the man in the surveillance video to call police or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
