Athens Crews Help Take Down Giant Balloon From Powerlines

A large helium advertising balloon came down on wires outside one Athens home early Sunday morning.

“I heard a loud blast and it woke me up,” said homeowner Robert Carter. “There were sparks flying!”

The balloon hit one of the metal spikes that holds the balloon down and that is what hit the transformer.   The fire department and power company arrived on the scene to release the helium to the balloon in order to get the balloon down safely.
