Alabama officer recovering after bullet hits safety vest
PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama police chief says one of his officers had minor injuries after a safety vest was struck by a bullet while the officer responded to a domestic disturbance call.
Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson tells news outlets Thursday that a man in the home died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers sent a robot into a bedroom after hearing a shot, and the man's body was found there.
The names of the officer and the other man were not immediately released.
Thompson says the officer did not fire his gun. When an officer discharges a firearm, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation typically leads the investigation. The Prattville Police Department will remain the lead investigative agency of this case.
Prattville is a suburb of Montgomery, the state capital.
