Abandoned hotel being demolished in Stonecrest

STONECREST, Ga. - Demolition has officially begun on an abandoned hotel in Stonecrest.

The hotel is known in the area as "The Cinder Block Hotel."

Workers abandoned construction back in 2008.

It is located next to four other hotels that surround the Mall at Stonecrest on Stonecrest Square.

The mayor said the demolition plans date back to 2016 when officials made residents a promise to get rid of the hotel and replace it with something better.

The mayor said an upgraded hotel will go in that spot and that the owners of the land are currently speaking with several franchises.
