Johns Creek High student wins national contest
Jack Somers of Johns Creek is getting national recognition for winning a t-shirt slogan competition.
The Johns Creek High School sophomore is an honors student, who plays on the lacrosse and football teams.
Acting on a suggestion from his chemistry teacher, 16-year-old Somers came up with the slogan for a competition sponsored by national clothing chain H & M and the Mentor Foundation USA.
The simple, but heartfelt words struck a chord- BE FREE, LIVE FREE, DRUG FREE beat out thousands of entries from around the country.
Somers says it took only a minute or two to come up with the phrase, and he went with his instinct.
The slogan is now emblazoned on t-shirts being sold at H & M. 25 percent of the proceeds from the sales will go to the Mentor Foundation prevention programs.
Somers also wins a trip to Washington, D.C.
