Strong winds to increase Southern wildfire threat

Windy weather conditions in Georgia may increase the risk of the spread of wildfires in the region, according to an update from the Georgia Forestry Commission.

FOX 5 Meteorologist Adam Fox forecasted temperatures in the upper-50s Saturday with gusty winds and cooler temperatures in the evening hours. With relative humidity expected to be between 27% and 30%, the Georgia Forestry Commission says there is an increased risk of the existing wildfires spreading and a chance of new ones igniting.

On Friday, crews responded to six new fires in North Georgia, the update said.

An estimated 190 square miles of land is burning in wildfires across the Southeast, causing evacuations and business closings.
