Smoky haze continues over metro Atlanta
ATLANTA - Even Stone Mountain, DeKalb County's largest landmark was masked by the smoky haze from wild fires burning nearly 100 miles away the North Georgia Mountains. The thick haze that coated most of metro Atlanta this week left some people suffering with allergy like symptoms.
“I started sneezing and my face started to itch along with my throat,” Deseree Jamison told FOX 5’s Portia Bruner.
The amateur boxer said the smoke was so thick she started gasping for air on her daily training run through Stone Mountain. Photos of her from Nov. 9 show her eyes swollen and puffy.
“I couldn't stop sneezing. My throat was hurting, my stomach was hurting. My tongue was swelling up and I could hardly breathe,” Jamison said.
Jamison said her doctor suspects the irritant in the forest fire smoke could be exacerbating her tree and pollen allergies. Only tests will tell for sure, but she said she will stay indoors until the hazey conditions pass.
“It feels good right now, but I'm not going chance it because you just never know which way the wind will blow,” she said.
