Scary abduction revealed to be 'escape room-style' prank
OLYMPIA, Wash. - A terrifying abduction scene in Washington State was actually an "escape room-style" prank, police say.
Witnesses in the town of Olympia, Washington called 911 saying five to six men dressed in white plastic jumpsuits grabbed three people, including a young girl.
The callers claimed the victims' arms were zip-tied, and then they were thrown into a red Ford truck.
By the time Washington State Patrol officers arrived on the scene, the truck and the group had left.
About 10 hours later, they learned that a family of six and two friends had planned the "escape room-style prank."
"It’s a relief you don’t have a child out there that’s been abducted. It's definitely a relief," Washington State Patrol Sergeant James Prouty said.
The target of the prank, an 11 and 15-year-olds.
In a release, the Washington State Patrol said a 17-year-old led the two younger kids to a nearby park, where six adults were hiding in the nearby bushes.
Police say the family believed the prank would be a fun opportunity for them and didn't realize the serious implications it would bring.
