Protests over First Amendment Defense Act
ATLANTA - A group of faith leaders gathered at the state capitol Wednesday to protest the controversial First Amendment Defense Act.
The clergy voiced their concerns of the bill which they said has the potential to discriminate against the LGBT community.
Sponsors believe the bill will protect religious leaders from losing government benefits if they oppose same-sex marriages. But some faith leaders said the bill could have some unintended consequences.
The House unanimously passed a bill last week that protects pastors and churches who choose to not perform same-sex marriages.
The senate is expected to vote on the bill later this week.
