Beltline stabbing victim dies, police say
What began as a stabbing investigation on the Northeast Beltline Trail has now turned into a homicide probe. Authorities have confirmed that the victim discovered near the Ansley Golf Club earlier, Thursday, May 14, 2026, has been pronounced dead. The investigation continues to center on the section of the trail behind Flagler Avenue, south of I-85. Portions of the popular pedestrian path remain behind crime scene tape as forensic units process the area.
What we don't know:
Authorities have not yet confirmed what triggered the attacks, though they are looking into whether the suspect was suffering from a mental health crisis during the spree.
The identities of two of the victims have not been publicly released, but police said the remaining two are expected to be okay.
What they're saying:
The stabbing near Ansley Mall on Flagler Avenue has worried a lot of people who live there and use the trail to get around.
"I think we might need more officers on bicycles on the BeltLine, maybe a little foot patrol now and then," one resident said.
Schierbaum said that the department is in the middle of adding more officers, which will mean more of a police presence on the Beltline.
"It's a very safe place to be. We have a dedicated path force team that patrols it. That unit is growing back as we see the department grow," he said.
