Man pleads guilty to attack on woman at Georgia Army post

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a southern California man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman on the Fort Benning Army Base near Columbus, Georgia.

Authorities say 59-year-old Alberto F. Islas, of the Los Angeles area, pleaded guilty this week to assault with intent to commit aggravated sexual abuse.

Prosecutors say Islas admitted to attacking a woman at Fort Benning by threatening her with a gun in an effort to coerce sex on Sept. 25.

Islas, who is in custody, faces up to 20 years in prison. It wasn't known Wednesday whether he has an attorney who could be reached for comment on his behalf.
