Officer Tiller might have just been in the right place at the right time. For the veteran police officer, he thought the right place was a community pool with his wife and daughter and the right time was a warm spring day for a little downtime.

But a post on the Duluth Police Department’s Facebook page explains what started out as a family outing turned out a bit differently than planned.

The alert officer spotted a father who had jumped into a pool. The post explains he saw the father then pull his son from the bottom of the pool. The young child was unresponsive and not breathing.

The father, understandably upset over the situation, didn’t know CPR. That’s when Officer Tiller stepped up to help, taking over to help revive the child. The trained officer performed CPR until the child coughed up water and was finally breathing on his own.

Rescue workers responded to the 911 call and paramedics checked out the young boy who was released at the scene to the care of his grateful father.

The Duluth Police Department wrote on their page regarding Office Tiller the following:

“Officer Tiller showed courage and determination to the highest caliber in saving this child's life. The two words of a true HERO.”

Please join us in celebrating this amazing officer.
