Search continues for Troup County woman who disappeared in 2017

Troup County deputies are asking for leads in the search for a 75-year-old West Point woman who has been missing for over seven years.

In 2017, Carol Evans disappeared from the home on Lower Lovelace Road that she shared with her husband of 52 years.

The backstory:

Evans was last seen on the afternoon of Nov. 10, 2017, leaving her home.

In a press release after she was declared a missing person, officials said that Evans had suffered from "the late stages of an altered mental state" and sometimes had moments of confusion as to where she was.

Investigators do not believe that Evans' disappearance was connected to any criminal matter. Despite cash rewards and massive searches involving K-9 officers, drones, and helicopters, no evidence of where she could be was ever found.

What we know:

Authorities described Evans as about 5-feet-2-inches tall with a weight of around 180 pounds. Officers do not know what she was wearing the day she went missing other than her glasses and either possibly tennis shoes or slip-on shoes.

This week, investigators returned to Evans home to search for her remains. Using equipment provided by the Troup County Road Department and a cadaver dog, the group searched a body of water on a nearby piece of property.

After two days of searching, the group did not find any remains.

What we don't know:

Investigators have followed up with different leads and continue to review Evans' case file, but her disappearance remains a mystery.
