Authorities Label Murder Suspect As "Out of Control"

A man accused of murdering his own mother did not make a first appearance in court, after authorities said the behavior of inmate Michael Jacobs made that potential court appearance in Cherokee County unsafe.

The sheriff said the young defendant allegedly tried to choke one inmate and took a fighting position toward a deputy in separate encounters over a 24 hour period.

This latest alleged violence follows a murder charge Jacobs faces, after authorities said he stabbed his mother following some kind of argument. Jacobs lived with his mother, Melony. She was 54 years old.

The young suspect is under medical observation. The sheriff asked a judge to come into the jail and conduct the court session so as to better control the suspect's behavior. That hearing did take place in the late afternoon without incident. Jacobs continues to be held without bond.
