Atlanta perfoms winter weather exercise

Atlanta may have seen near record high temperatures this week, but that didn’t stop Atlanta city officials from planning ahead for the snow and ice of winter.

Friday, the Atlanta Department of Public Works held a dry run on how crews will respond during a winter weather event. During the exercise, officials learned more about the salt and water mixture, called brine, which will be used to pretreat the roadways and help ice from forming.

Officials said the warm weather is the perfect time to perform one of these exercises and get it down ahead of a winter storm.

And when the crews do actually hit the roadways, officials urge drivers to be mindful of the big truck and give them plenty of room to keep everyone safe.
