Transfer Greyson Lambert has been picked as the starting quarterback for No. 9 Georgia.

Coach Mark Richt made the announcement after Monday's practice.

Lambert began his college career at Virginia before transferring to Georgia. The junior had battled throughout preseason practice with last year's backup, sophomore Brice Ramsey, and junior Faton

It was apparent in recent days that it was down to Lambert and Ramsey for the top spot on the depth chart.

Lambert was told before practice that he'll start Saturday's opener against Louisiana-Monroe.

Richt says all three quarterback continue to battle for the job, and there's no guarantee that Lambert will be the starter all season. But the coach felt it was important to choose a clear-cut starter heading into the first game.
