Baskets at GHSA Championships placed incorrectly
MACON, Ga. - The basketball goals at this weekend's GHSA State Basketball Championships were incorrectly placed for all of the championship games. GHSA Executive Director Gary Phillips confirmed to FOX 5 on Saturday night that the stanchions were placed about a foot farther away from the baseline than regulation. That means free throws were a foot longer and there was less room underneath the basket.
Phillips told FOX 5 that he was made aware of the problem half way through the slate of games on Saturday, but chose not to correct the issue because the goals on both ends of the court were identically misplaced. Phillips said that he had only heard from one coach from the fourteen teams playing in finals games.
Phillips says that he does not see a scenario where the GHSA would crown co-champions for the title games.
