Zoo Atlanta to honor famous gorilla's legacy on Father's Day

Zoo Atlanta has plans to celebrate the life of Willie B. on Father’s Day. Visitors will enjoy special talks from the Gorilla Care Team, interactive educational activities, and a chance to see Willie B. III – the famous gorilla’s grandchild.

The famous western lowland gorilla first arrived in Atlanta in 1961 and stayed until his death in 2000. Over the decades, Willie B. gained lots of attention and became a poster child for Zoo Atlanta. 

The best-known animal in the zoo’s population will be celebrated since 2023 marks 35 years since he first came to Atlanta at two years old. 

The event will take place on June 18 from 10 to 3 p.m.
