Woman dies after stepping into I-85 traffic following dispute, police say

ATLANTA - A 26-year-old woman died Saturday after stepping into traffic along Interstate 85 following a physical fight inside a vehicle, according to Atlanta police.
What we know:
The incident happened on Saturday on I-85 southbound near GA 400 southbound.
Atlanta police said the victim was involved in a physical altercation inside a moving vehicle. The driver pulled over to the highway shoulder, where passengers exited and the physical fight continued outside.
During the argument on the shoulder, the 26-year-old woman darted into an active lane of travel and was hit by a passing vehicle, police added.
The 26-year-old victim died at the scene, authorities said.
The Atlanta Police Department (APD) said the driver of the vehicle that hit the woman remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.
The APD Accident Investigations Unit will investigate the crash.
