ATLANTA - The man wanted in connection with a chilling mugging in Midtown Atlanta faces even more charges as police say he attempted to run from them.
Phelan Thorpe, 30, was wanted for stalking and robbing a woman who had just stepped out onto the street from the Midtown MARTA Station.

The backstory:
The incident happened before 2 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of 10th St. N.E. and West Peachtree St. N.E. The Atlanta Police Department released video of the incident Sunday.
That video shows a man confronting the woman claiming he had a gun and demanded her purse and iPhone. When he attempted to grab her purse, a physical struggle broke out.
During the struggle, the man punched the woman with a closed fist. He took her phone and driver's license before he ran northbound on West Peachtree Street.

What we know:
Just after 5:15 p.m. Monday, Atlanta police were called out to the 2000 block of Thomasville Drive S.E. for a report of a wanted man who was armed with a gun.
Officers arrived to find Thorpe at the scene. During the investigation, police say he took off in a marked Atlanta Police patrol vehicle parked outside.
Thorpe drove the stolen vehicle into neighboring Clayton County, where he crashed into a tanker truck, according to officials. Officers took him into custody without further incident following the crash.
Thorpe suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he was alert, conscious and breathing.
Police reported no injuries to officers or bystanders.
