Tiny homes coming to Cobb Parkway for Marietta students

A new tiny house village planned for Cobb Parkway aims to provide a stable home Marietta City Schools students currently experiencing homelessness.

What we know:

Emmanuel’s Village will feature 15 tiny homes situated on an acre and a half of land behind Glory Haus on Cobb Parkway.

The $3.2 million project, which was approved by city leaders over a year ago, includes a playground, a garden, and a community center repurposed from a Disney World Fort Wilderness cabin.

The village will work with MUST Ministries and Marietta City Schools to help families stabilize for 12 to 18 months before transitioning to permanent housing.

What we don't know:

While the project has received local permits and approval, the specific date for the start of construction remains unclear as organizers work to secure the final funding.

By the numbers:

458: The number of homeless students currently enrolled in the Marietta City Schools district.

$3.2 million: The total projected cost to build Emmanuel’s Village.

$1.4 million: The total amount of funds raised for the project so far.

12 to 18: The number of months families will stay in the village to achieve stability.

What's next:

Project leaders are currently fundraising for an additional $100,000 and hope to secure a grant from the state to cover the remaining costs.

Molly Holm, CEO of Glory Haus, pointed to Governor Brian Kemp’s $50 million 'Rehoused Georgia' initiative as a potential source for the necessary funds, noting that the project is permitted and "ready to go."

What they're saying:

Holm explained that the goal is to provide more than just a roof, but a sense of belonging for the families.

"Help them figure out how to babysit each other's kids, how to carpool together, give them a community by providing Wednesday night supper."

Regarding the transition to long-term stability, Holm added, "We're going help their families get stable for 12 to 18 months, and then help them figure out how to get to permanent housing."
