Teen accepts plea in stabbing death of grandmother
ATLANTA - For the family members of an Atlanta grandmother, her brutal stabbing death committed by one of her grandchildren cannot be explained.
Charles Price III accepted a plea and will have to serve 20 years for the act. Mary Price, who was 74, was stabbed 57 times.
The defendant was only 14 when it occurred back in 2014. He stood before Fulton County Judge Ellen Lagrua on Wednesday, and in hushed tones, admitted to the violence.
Price showed up to his school in clothes soaked with blood. There was no explanation for the violence from the child's attorney. The teen had suffered from depression and snapped, according to the attorney.
The boy will get credit for the two years he has been confined in the juvenile system. He will be 34 when he is eligible to come out.
District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. says:
“Our hearts go out to this family that has suffered greatly not only because of the death of Mrs. Price, but also because the stabbing was committed in such a brutal fashion by a child she loved dearly. Price’s flawed mental state clearly suggested that a plea to a lesser offense was the appropriate action in this matter.”
