Sketch released in string of GSU armed robberies

Georgia State University Police are trying to find the man who is responsible for a string of robberies that took place within the last month on the Georgia State University campus.

Police tell FOX 5 News that two armed robberies took place on January 28 and they believe this suspect is also connected to the robbery that took place inside of the Library North building on January 14.

The student described the man who robbed him as being about 6 feet tall, weighing about 180 pounds with a beard and low-style haircut. The suspect was also wearing khaki pants, dark blue jacket and white shoes.

Campus officials said they stepped up patrols. Police said the robber slipped through the library security which requires students to swipe their campus identification cards to gain entry to the library.

Visitors are supposed to leave their ID with security guards at the front. Carlton Mullis, Deputy Chief of the GSU Police Department, said investigators are checking library records of who signed in Thursday.

A number of students told FOX 5's George Franco they see people circumvent the library security on a regular basis.

GSU Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call at 404-413-3333. They also said students who may feel unsure of their safety call them for a secure ride.
