Shots fired into Florida county's GOP campaign HQ

South Daytona police detectives say the Volusia County Republican headquarters was shot up overnight.

At least four shots went through the glass, with one bullet shattering the front window and another bullet flying all the way across the room through a campaign poster and into the wall.

“As far as I’m concerned, these were Democrats, Republicans have no wish or want to do us any harm, and you’ve got a lot of angry Democrats out there that just can’t and won’t get over the 2016 election,  and this is what we have to deal with,” said Tony Ledbetter, chairman of the Volusia County GOP.

Ledbetter says he’s thankful that no volunteers were inside when it happened, but says he’s angry that it did happen.

“We live in a free country, and we should debate our issues on Election Day not debate our issues with guns,” Ledbetter said.

Nearby businesses like the Pumpernickle Pops Vape Shop just two doors down were also rattled by the shooting.

“If it happened broad daylight God forbid if it hit some kinds of metal or ricocheted and hit some kind of bystander you really have no idea, of if somebody was inside, scary,” said Samentha Simmons.

With nearly a week until Election Day republicans say the incident isn’t going to stop them.

“This is not going to scare us off we’re not going anywhere we’ll double our efforts,” Ledbetter said.

Volusia County Democrats say they were appalled that something like this could happen, and as for the allegations that Democrats are responsible, they say they are also appalled by those comments.
