Shoppers Continue Holiday Gift-Buying on Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday is here on the heels of Black Friday. It's the day local businesses across the country aim to cash in on the holiday shopping craze.
Metro-Atlanta shops have their own deals and strategies to lure in the crowds. FOX 5 found eager shoppers at Atlanta's Edgewood retail district as well as historic Downtown Norcross.
Sisters Jackie Kraft and Tori Tinsley dodged the masses on Black Friday. They kicked off their shopping at the Beehive boutique in Edgewood.
Kraft said she enjoys the smaller crowds on Small Business Saturday. She also wants to support locally-owned shops.
"I think it just supports local communities and supports local artists," Kraft said. "You can really get some cute things for the holidays."
Store manager Mari Ama Davis said the Beehive sells products, such as jewelry, clothing, and other items, made by local vendors.
"When people pour their money back into the local economy, it just helps us all. We are a small business that supports additional small businesses," Davis said.
Anna Balkan, owner of Anna Balkan Jewelry in historic downtown Norcross, plans to show customers her appreciation with a 10 percent discount on items Saturday.
"We are a land of people who make things. We are a land of people who buy from each other and smile at each other. We give back to each other," Balkan said.
Small Business Saturday started six years ago. According to Forbes, 88 million consumers shopped small last year on the day. This year, it comes with its own social media hashtag, shop small.
