Record 455 movie, TV projects filmed in Georgia in past year

Upcoming TV seasons of Netflix's "Ozark" and AMC's "The Walking Dead" were also shot in Georgia.

Georgia officials say the past year was the busiest ever for movies and TV shows filmed in the state.

Gov. Nathan Deal's office said in a news release that Georgia hosted 455 movie and TV productions in the 2018 fiscal year that ended June 30. Recent projects filmed in the state include Mark Wahlberg's action movie "Mile 22" and a live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid." Both films opened in theaters Friday.

Upcoming TV seasons of Netflix's "Ozark" and AMC's "The Walking Dead" were also shot in Georgia.

Georgia officials say film productions brought $2.7 billion in direct spending in fiscal 2018. That's compared to $93 million the film industry spent here in 2007, the year before Georgia lawmakers passed a series of financial incentives aimed at luring Hollywood productions.
