Police search for gunman in violent carjacking
ATLANTA - Atlanta police are looking for the person who shot a 24-year-old woman outside a convenience store in Southwest Atlanta. The woman is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital while police look for the gunman and the woman's car.
It was early Monday morning, before dawn, when Ashley Graves went into the convenience store on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and bought a few things. A witness said Graves left, he heard gunfire, and Graves stumbled back into the store and collapsed on the floor.
Police say when they arrived Graves was bleeding profusely and drifting in and out of consciousness. Her white Nissan Altima was gone.
Police recovered a 9 mm shell casing from the parking lot and put out a city wide lookout for the Nissan.
On Tuesday, Police spotted the woman's car about 3 miles away at the intersection of Joseph E Lowery and North Avenue.
Police went after it, there was a short chase, and when they got to the Bankhead MARTA station, two men in the stolen car bailed out and took off running.
Investigators say one of them jumped onto the MARTA tracks, disrupting service for a short time. He was able to get away.
The other man who was in the car was caught, questioned and released.
Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance video hoping it will lead them to the gunman.
