A plane crashed in the backyard of a home, narrowly missing several homes on Tuesday.

The prop plane went down along Old Fountain Road in Gwinnett County around 3:20 p.m.

The pilot and his passenger survived the crash.

Gwinnet County Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge said the plane grazed a roof as it went down.

“A couple of roof shingles were displaced as the plane grazed the house, it could have been a much different story had the plane impacted that home,” said Rutledge.

Josh Frazier was inside his home with his family when he heard the plane go down.

“I heard what sounded like a train fall in our backyard. I thought maybe a tree fell on our house,” said Frazier.

Frazier and his wife looked out and saw the plane's wing in his backyard. He said it was much too close.

“The way it came down, my daughter's bedroom is right there, the wing could have easily landed in her bedroom while she was asleep,” said Frazier.

Frazier's wife, Crystal is an athletic trainer. Frazier said “she grabbed her kit and went to help the people in the plane. They were talking and could say their names and how old they were.”

Both the NTSB and the FAA were notified about the crash and the investigation continues.

Witnesses called 911 to report the crash. The recordings were released to FOX 5 on Wednesday.

"The plane is caught up in a tree," one called said. "They got the guy out.  He's just laying out right there. It looks like he's been injured because there is blood on his hands."

Police said the pilot is from Duluth, he is in his mid-20's. He had one passenger, a teenager from Johns Creek.

Both were taken to the hospital and have non-life threatening injuries.
