Passengers use emergency slides to escape plane during snowstorm
Passengers prepared for takeoff on a Japan Airlines flight were forced to evacuate the aircraft when an engine caught fire. It happened Tuesday at the New Chitose Airport in northern Japan.
More than 160 passengers and crew were on board the plane. They were forced to use emergency chutes to get off the plane in blizzard-like conditions. One woman was injured during the evacuation from the Boeing 737 aircraft.
Local media report that the engine stalled after sucking in snow. Passengers heard the sound of an explosion when the pilot tried to restart the engine. Passengers say smoke filled the cabin soon after that.
Investigators are reviewing what led to the fire and evacuation.
