New FOX 5 Poll: Clinton lead over Trump in Florida tightens

A new poll conducted for FOX 5 Atlanta and sister FOX stations in Tampa and Orlando shows the race for president has tightened in the key southern swing state of Florida.

The Opinion Savvy survey conducted for FOX 5 Atlanta, FOX 13 Tampa and FOX 35 Orlando puts Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton at 48 percent, with Republican nominee Donald Trump at 46 percent.

The Opinion Savvy survey of 853 likely voters in Florida has a margin of error of 3.4 percent.

The poll released Monday follows an Opinion Savvy poll last Thursday that put Clinton at 49 percent and Trump at 45 percent in Florida.

The new poll also shows Libertarian Gary Johnson at 3 percent, Green Party nominee Jill Stein at 1 percent, and undecided at 2 percent.

FOX 5 political analyst Matt Towery Sr. sees reasons for the Florida race tightening.

Towery said, “Trump is gaining among independent voters and him consolidating his vote among voters 45 years of age and older. It’s really now about turnout but clearly Trump has momentum on his side."

On Friday, Opinion Savvy which is run by Towery’s son Matt Jr. showed Trump with a 4% lead over Clinton in Georgia.

The Georgia poll had Trump at 49 percent, Clinton at 45 percent, Johnson at 5 percent, and undecided at 1 percent.
