Motorcyclist killed after chase through Dawson County
DAWSONVILLE, Ga. - A motorcyclist is dead after the Georgia State Patrol said he sped away from a trooper trying to pull him over along Georgia Highway 400 near Dawsonville Friday afternoon.
The crash happened along Georgia Highway 400 near Dawson 400 Circle in Dawson County around 2 p.m. Troopers said they tried to pull over the operator of a 2006 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle near the Dawson-Lumpkin County line, but the motorcyclist sped off, weaving in and out of traffic. The motorcycle ended up striking a 2014 Hyundai Sonata which was turning onto the busy highway, according to troopers. The motorcycle overturned, broke into several pieces, and caught fire.
The 36-year-old driver of the Sonata and her one-year-old baby in the back seat were not injured in the crash. The motorcyclist, identified by troopers as Charles Arnold Painter, 46, of Hapeville, died at the scene.
Troopers said Painter did not have a license to operate a motorcycle, was not insured, and did not have a tag for the vehicle. He was wearing a proper helmet at the time of the crash.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the incident.
No troopers were injured.
