Missing sex trafficking victim recovered in East Point

A juvenile identified as a victim of sex trafficking has been safely recovered in East Point months after she disappeared from North Carolina, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation also resulted in an arrest, although authorities have not identified the suspect or released details about the charges because the case remains under investigation.

Juvenile disappeared in May

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office said its task force investigators were contacted Aug. 17 by police in Fayetteville, North Carolina, asking for help locating the juvenile.

Investigators said the girl was believed to be traveling to her mother's home in Georgia in May but never arrived. She was last seen getting into an unknown vehicle that picked her up from her home in Fayetteville.

After joining the investigation, Fulton County investigators said they identified multiple online commercial sex advertisements involving the juvenile across metro Atlanta.

Investigators track victim to East Point

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office said investigators worked with Homeland Security Investigations and the sheriff's SWAT team to locate and safely recover the juvenile in East Point.

She was taken to a secure facility where she could receive care and victim services.

"Once our assistance was requested, our teams worked quickly to locate and recover this juvenile victim, ensuring she was taken to safety and given the care she needed," Fulton County Sheriff Patrick "Pat" Labat said.

Suspect arrested

Authorities confirmed an arrest was made in connection with the case but said no additional information about the suspect or circumstances surrounding the arrest would be released while the criminal investigation remains ongoing.

Officials also have not disclosed how long the juvenile had been in metro Atlanta or provided additional details about how she became a trafficking victim.
