It is with a heavy heart that Habersham Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of K-9 Falco on Friday evening.

Habersham 9-1-1 received a call that the deputy ‘s barn was on fire. The deputy and his wife were out when they received a phone call from their other K-9 handler that responded to the call telling them to return home.

Tragically both dogs lost their lives in the fire. Both dogs were in their kennels, which was located in the barn.  A horse stall was fixed as a kennel to keep the dogs warm in the winter.  Please keep them in your prayers.

“The deputy is heartbroken, but he and his family are doing okay,” said Jason Cotton, Gwinnett County Sheriff K-9 handler and trainer.

A memorial service has been planned for K-9 Falco. If you wish to attend it will be on Thursday February 4. The Habersham Sheriff's K-9 unit would love to have anyone that would like to attend.

The memorial will begin with a procession of Falco's ashes from the Habersham County Sheriff's Office to McGahee Griffin Stewart Funeral Home. There will be a short viewing at the funeral home followed by a service and honor guard ceremony.

If you want to attend the procession and can be in your patrol vehicle we will meet at the sheriff's office at 1:00 p.m. at 1000 Detention Drive Clarkesville, Ga 30523.

If you are only attending the service it will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home at 175 VFW Post Road in Cornelia, Ga 30531.

There is no need to wear a Class A uniform for this.
