Meet the 11-year-old boy who is working to make a difference in the lives of the homeless
TAMPA, Fla. - Caleb Ruddock might be young, but he’s already learned he can make a difference: by putting together special goody bags to give out to the homeless as part of a project he calls “Help for the Homeless.” The bags contain essentials like clothes, food, and water that make life a little easier for those who are stuck out on the streets.
The 11-year-old says he saw a YouTube video of people giving out water to the homeless, and that inspired him to see if he could do the same. Ruddock asked his parents for $50 to make five goody bags. Soon, as people in Ruddock’s neighborhood heard about what he was doing, they asked to contribute too.
“Other people heard about it, so then they started donating money,” Ruddock told Fox 13. “So then we did like another 20.”
Ruddock’s father Shawn thinks that his son’s efforts should inspire people to realize that everyone has the ability to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
“It doesn’t have to be an adult. You don’t have to be a millionaire,” said Shawn. “It can just be a kid with a desire to help others.”
And Caleb says that helping others has helped him feel good too.
Said Caleb, “I, like, feel happy when I help other people.”
