It was quite the mess along Interstate 575 in Cherokee County Monday afternoon after a transfer truck flipped on the overpass over Lower Bethany Road.

It happened a little before 12:45 p.m. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services said the flipped truck caused logs to drop below into the northbound and southbound lanes of I-575. Logs could be seen clinging to the overpass.

Firefighters worked quickly to put out a fire on the truck. The driver of the truck appeared to be uninjured.

Emergency officials said one vehicle, a Honda Fit, was struck by the massive debris. Fortunately, the driver and two passengers only received minor injuries. All were transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital for evaluation.

Southbound lanes were opened about an hour after a crash and northbound lanes took about two hours to clear.

Crews worked to upright the truck and remove all the lumber.

The Georgia State Patrol, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and the Canton Police Department all responded to the accident.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
