Hollywood lines up against Georgia religious exemption bill
ATLANTA (AP) — Hollywood actors and producers say they will take projects elsewhere if Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal won't veto a bill protecting same-sex marriage opponents.
A letter sent Thursday to Deal by the Human Rights Campaign includes actors Matt Bomer, Kristin Chenoweth, Anne Hathaway, Julianne Moore and Marisa Tomei.
Other figures include Seth MacFarlane, Ryan Murphy, Rob Reiner, Aaron Sorkin and Harvey Weinstein.
Georgia's tax credits have drawn the film and TV industry here.
The bill prevents government burden of religious belief or penalty against faith-based organizations, including refusal to serve or hire someone. It protects clergy who won't perform gay marriages and people who won't attend a wedding.
Deal has until May 3 to act. He opposed earlier versions but hasn't commented on the final bill.
Other opponents include Disney and the NFL.
