The hero dog, who made headlines in April when he was stabbed in the line of duty, has passed away due to spinal and neurological issues. K-9 Tryko lived to be 11 years and 6 months old.

K-9 Tryo, a German Shepherd with the Doraville Police Department was assisting the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Taskforce in a search for a man wanted for numerous felonies across multiple counties. Tryko located the suspect hiding in a house and was stabbed in the mouth as he moved in to apprehend him. He lost a great deal of blood and sustained a number of punctures and lacerations to his tongue and mouth. Tryko healed and returned to full duty in about a month.

For his service K-9 Tryko was honored with the American Kennel Club Paws of Courage Award in September.

K-9 Kyro served the Doraville and metro Atlanta community since 2006, amassing over 700 suspect apprehensions and 600 drug seizures.

A memorial service is being planned for K-9 Tryko.
