Fundraiser to support injured officers nears $50K, goal increased to $75K
YORK COUNTY, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - An online fundraiser that was created earlier this week to support four York County law enforcement officers with their medical bills and recovery following a shooting is close to the original $50,000 goal, a new goal of $75,000 was set.
One of the four, Master Deputy II Michael Doty with YCSO Investigations, tragically died from his injuries in the hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Master Deputy Michael Doty, Sgt. Randy Clinton with YCSO K-9, Sgt. Buddy brown with YCSO Patrol, and Sgt. Kyle Cummings with YPD Forensics were "ambushed" and shot by suspect Christian Thomas McCall, 47.
Sgt. Kyle Cummings has been released from the hospital and is reported to be at home resting and recovering.

The York County Sheriff's Office had received a call by McCall's wife for a domestic violence situation at 3042 Farrier Lane at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15. By the time deputies arrived, McCall had fled the scene on foot into the woods.
All four law enforcement officers were shot by McCall while searching for him in the overnight hours. McCall also sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and was transported to CMC-Main earlier this week for treatment.
Warrants have been issued against McCall for murder, three counts of attempted murder, and first-degree domestic violence. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
A GoFundMe account that was started to support the officers' medical bills and recovery has raised more than $47,000 out of their $75,000 goal.
