Former police chief arrested on drug charges

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - A former Tennessee police chief and his son have been arrested on drug charges.

The Jackson Sun reports Johnny Elmore, 76, and John Elmore, 53, were arrested after a two-month investigation. Johnny Elmore is accused of selling or delivering hydrocodone and alprazolam and selling a schedule II and schedule IV controlled substance in a school zone. John Elmore is accused of possession of schedule II substance with intent to sell and filing a false report.

Johnny Elmore was the police chief for Friendship, Tennessee, 26 years. Mayor Casey Burnett said he was "a good employee" and said he is still listed as a city alderman pending the outcome of the case.

The newspaper reported Johnny Elmore was released from jail on bond Thursday.
