Fire in Little River Canyon burns over estimated 300 acres

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (AP) — A park ranger says a fire at the Little River Canyon National Preserve has burned over an estimated 300 acres but that firefighters have caught a break.
Larry Beane says the fire expanded a bit overnight and went into the canyon but then the winds changed "to our benefit."
He says the winds Sunday are now pushing the fire back to where it started early Saturday.
Highway 35, a major road through the park, is currently closed so fire crews can work in and along the road. But Beane says it's expected to reopen Sunday.
The park is open. Most of the fire has been within the park but some of the fire lines have extended outside.
The area is extremely dry, as parts of the state struggle with drought.
