Feds charge man with trafficking handguns from Georgia

Authorities have brought federal charges against a Massachusetts man who allegedly trafficked handguns from Georgia.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Boston says 40-year-old Richard Philippe, of Attleboro, was charged Friday in federal court with being a felon in possession of ammunition - an offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

Investigator say Philippe is suspected in the illegal trafficking of more than 100 guns purchased from an unidentified individual in Georgia between April and June.

Philippe was arrested on July 5 after federal agents searched a warehouse in Taunton that he allegedly used. They seized 144 rounds and empty firearms boxes with labels tying them to the weapons that originated in Georgia.

Authorities say Philippe wasn't allowed to deal firearms or possess ammunition because of a prior felony firearms conviction.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.
