Douglas County warns residents after 3 raccoons test positive for rabies
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Officials in Douglas County are warning residents after they say the third attack by a raccoon that has tested positive for rabies.
According to Douglas County Animal Control, their officers were called to Sweetwater Drive on March 31 after a homeowner with four dogs reported a raccoon acting strangely.
On April 3, the raccoon tested positive for rabies, which officials said was the third to test that way in five weeks.
Prior to this raccoon, animal control found another rabid raccoon on Tuesday, March 11 off Midway Road. A second was found in the downtown area of Douglasville on March 27.
Officials are urging residents in the area to make sure their pets are vaccinated for rabies and to not leave food or garbage outside that could attack wild animals.
