DeKalb Commission OKs incentives for Atlanta United FC
ATLANTA (AP) - DeKalb County commissioners have approved financial incentives to build a training complex for Atlanta's new Major League Soccer team.
The commission voted 4-3 Tuesday in favor of a package for Atlanta United FC.
DeKalb County will spend $7 million for office space and $5 million for land preparation. The club won't have to pay property taxes for 30 years.
An agreement shows Atlanta United will construct a 3,500-seat stadium, three practice fields and a two-story team headquarters near Interstate 285.
An indoor training facility and more fields may be built later.
More than a dozen residents stood in opposition to the deal, but supporters on the commission called it a public investment.
The team will play its first season in 2017.
