Woman killed during daily walk in DeKalb neighborhood, residents say

DeKalb County police are investigating the deadly shooting and stabbing of a woman on Monday morning in a quiet neighborhood near Decatur.

What we know:

Officers responded to the scene on Battle Forrest Drive around 6:50 a.m. Monday.

They discovered a woman suffering from gunshot and stab wounds.

A neighbor, Tiffany Williams, said she saw a man standing over the victim before he ran up the street. Williams tried to help the woman, but it was too late.

The victim was well-known in the area for her daily routine. Authorities later identified the victim as 40-year-old Lauren Bullis.

Neighbors said she frequently walked her dog and would wave to people as she passed by.

Police believe Olaolukitan Adon Abel, 26, is connected to Bullis' death. Abel is accused in several deadly shootings across DeKalb County.

What they're saying:

"I looked across the street, it was a lady laying down and a man over her," neighbor Tiffany Williams said. "So I'm running and my daughter's like, 'No, like get back because we heard shooting,' but my instinct was to try to do what I could to help her."

Williams expressed her heartbreak over the loss of a neighbor she saw every day. "I'm like kind of upset and can't believe that this is happening because she didn't deserve that. And you can't even walk your dog, that's sad," Williams said. "I would like to send my condolences to the family and I just hope they catch him."

What we don't know:

Investigators are working to determine whether Abel and Bullis had a prior connection.

What's next:

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The medical examiner is working to determine the official cause of death. Detectives are continuing to process evidence gathered by K-9 units and crime scene investigators.
