Dawsonville woman celebrates 100th birthday
DAWSONVILLE, Ga. - A Dawsonville woman is celebrating an amazing milestone this week: her 100th birthday.
Frances Griffeth was born during a blizzard on her family's Kansas farm on Jan. 31, 1918. For the next 12 years of her life, she grew up on the farm, attending school in a one-room schoolhouse up to the eighth grade.
After graduating high school, Frances married her sweetheart, Charles Griffeth. The happy couple stayed together until his death in 1988 – 53 years of married bliss!
Together, Frances and Charles traveled the county, living in California, where Charles worked in the aerospace industry, owning a farm, and more.
Frances has worked various jobs outside of her farm life, including working as at a nursery and as an office manager for a construction company. She was a school cafeteria manager for almost 20 years.
Frances and Charles had five children: daughters Barbara, Scharlene, and Pricilla, and sons Charles Jr. and Bill. She now has 16 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, and even some great-great-grandchildren!
When Charles Jr. moved with his wife Terryll to the metro Atlanta area, Frances came with them. She now lives in North Georgia Assisted Living in Dawsonville.
Everyone here at FOX 5 Atlanta wishes Frances and amazing and very happy 100th birthday!
