Columbus has 5 year plan to increase water bills

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — The Columbus Water Works is planning a five-year series of rate hikes that would take average residential water bills from about $50 to almost $63.

In a report presented to the Columbus council, the increase would help the Water Works to finance $50 million in bonds issued this year for 25 water projects around the city. Two of the big projects include $22.2 million for the South Columbus Water Resources Facility and about $10.5 million for the North Columbus Water Resources Facility.

Vic Burchfield with the Water Works told the Ledger-Enquirer (http://bit.ly/2g2OYuo) it's a reinvestment in the city's infrastructure.

The report says Columbus' water rates would still remain one of the lowest in Georgia.
